An interesting article about wine from our extensive collection.

The UnCork York Wine Trail - Part II

The UnCork York Wine Trail - Part II
By Alan Kassirer

Welcome Spring to Central Pennsylvania with the 2009 Tour de Tanks wine tasting event on the UnCork York Wine Trail. Every weekend in March, the wineries of the UnCork York Wine Trail invite you to enjoy your first taste of the new year's vintages straight from the barrels and tanks. You'll also have the opportunity to talk to the winemakers and learn more about the wines and how they're made. The event begins on February 28th and continues every Saturday and Sunday through March 29th. The wineries will be open on Saturdays from noon to 5:00 and Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00. Admission to the event is only $15.00 and your ticked is good for all five weekends. You'll also receive 10% off your wine purchases and stamps that make you eligible to win UnCork York Wine Trail prizes.

Reid's Orchard and Winery will not be open on February 28th or March 1st because the following week, March 7th is their grand opening. Be there for their first day of business and taste their brand new hard cider, fruit wines and other varietals. I know I'm planning on being there.

The Adams County Winery in Orrtana has been in business for about 30 years. Current owner, John Kramb, then a resident of Washington, DC was in the Gettysburg area in 1998 for a private ceremony commemorating General Lewis Armistead's contribution to the Confederate Army when he drove by the winery and saw a 'for sale' sign. He stopped in, checked out the winery and bought it three days later. Since buying the winery, he's converted the former tank room into a beautiful sitting room and built a new state of the art tank room. The tasting room and gift shop are among the nicest I've seen.

The Moon Dancer Vineyards and Winery in Wrightsville offers some of the most spectacular views of the Susquehanna River you'll find anywhere. The winery plays host to live music every Saturday and Sunday and as the weather warms, the action moves to their beautiful outdoor deck which overlooks the Susquehanna River Valley below. They also host a summer concert series every year which features some of the area's finest talent. For these events, Moon Dancer invites you to bring your lawn, chair and picnic basket, purchase some wine and kick back for an evening of great entertainment. Moon Dancer's premier event of the year is their annual Bluegrass Festival and Pig Roast during the grape harvest season.

Whether you visit one of the UnCork York Wine Trail's wineries or all 12, you're sure to be glad that you made the trip. For more information, visit http://www.uncorkyork.com
