An interesting article about wine from our extensive collection.

How to Find the Best Premixed Wine Cases by Kevin J Allen

How to Find the Best Premixed Wine Cases
By Kevin J Allen

Other than a last minute dash to the off-licence to get a bottle in a hurry, many wine drinkers now opt to purchase a premixed case of wine. Purchasing a premixed wine cases is one of the easiest and frugal ways to increase a wine collection. However, there is a skill, although some would say rather unscientific, in opening a wine from within a premixed case that meets, or perhaps even exceeds, your expectations.

Experimentation is one think that makes wine drinking enjoyable and exciting. Not knowing the exact taste of a wine before the first sip definitely adds to the enjoyment. Of course, there are aspects of the wine that can give clues, such as the grape variety and location, but ultimately although these are guides, they are merely influences along with the 'terroir' (personality) of the vineyard, origin and production method to name a few. Buying a premixed case definitely adds more wines to our repertoire, both in enjoyment and in overall understanding of different wine influences that go into the overall taste and feel of each variety.

Wine merchants often give us a small helping hand on our quest to find the most appropriate wines within a case. Often a cases can be described as 'Dense Spanish Reds' or 'Light Summer Whites' and these names obviously tell us what is inside so if you like your Spanish Riojas you'll know where to look. With descriptions too such as Party Mix you'll know that wines contained inside will be perfect for pre-party drinks around your house, but not so-apt for that all important dinner party with your boss, when you're desperately seeking promotion.

Although undoubtedly a cliché, the easiest way to classify the quality and desirability of a case is by the price. Generally, the pricier the wine the better the quality, despite the new-world wine producers such as Argentina and Australia desperately trying to tell us otherwise with fantastic vintages that compete admirably with more prestigious French and Italian varieties. Nonetheless, as a general rule we can safely say that a £50 12 bottle case will be inferior to one of £150.

In summary, picking a premixed case is an adventurous way to bulk-buy wine whatever the occasion. In order to discover when you open the box though that the wine inside is exactly what you're after you should look at the description, price and also for that added guide maybe ask your wine connoisseur friend down the street or a colleague for their hints and tips. Also, before you buy the most expensive premixed case you can afford think about the situation that it will be enjoyed. I'm sure your children may thank you for the £300 12 bottle case that you've given them for their friends 19th birthday barbeque, but will they really notice the difference between that and a £50 party mix case?

With all of the different wine merchants and distributors around at the moment it is really helpful to find a place where all of this varied information is displayed and comparisons can be made. It will definitely save you a lot of time to look at impartial wine information sites for advice and a one-stop hub of information, helping you find the most appropriate premixed wine cases.
