How To Throw A Wine Tasting Party

How To Throw A Wine Tasting Party
By Ian Love

If the mention of a wine party makes you imagine beautiful gals dressed up, sipping glasses of wine and making their way to the dance floor, you got it wrong. A wine party is far different from our regular parties. It is a time when wine lovers gather and discuss the different varieties of wine. A wine enthusiast will always be spotted at wine parties, to taste and be acquainted with different wines from across the world.

If you are a wine lover but don't know where to look for a party, worry not as you can always throw a wine tasting party yourself.

Here is what you can do when you find it's time to throw a wine party. For starters, calling too many people won't serve the purpose. You can always discuss and enjoy the wines better when you are a smaller group of knowledgeable people. Invite only those friends who are interested in wines and do have and wish to increase their knowledge about special wines. You can ask the invitees to get along a bottle of wine or if you arrange some wines of different brands, ask them to get a small note pad and a pen along. Do not forget to make arrangements for some snacks, as you are going to have a lot of hungry wine tasters after a couple of rounds.

When throwing a wine party you can ask each person to come along with their own glass and bottle of wine. Prepare a list of a variety of wines and ask each one to get a bottle. The group can visit a wine shop and with the help of the merchant select some of the fine wines. This will reduce your cost burden and also give you a taste of different flavors. Choose a quiet place to sit, an area like the garden would be perfect. Place a light color cloth on the table. Once everyone has gathered, you can begin pouring the first brand in each glass and discuss the taste. Then gradually as the party begins, bring up the topic of wine - starting with its origin, the type of grapes used, and of course the taste. Keep a spit bowl next to each person, in case some brands are bitter.

Do not taste all the wines immediately or you may not understand the taste of others. Eat some snacks and make a note of all that you learnt about the wine. After a gap of 15 minutes and a couple of snacks you can move on to the other brands of wine. Continue the same format of its origin, class, and type. Once again gather as much information on the wine and jot down what you can share with your friends. Determine which food tastes better with which brand of wine. This is something that will keep the party going.

Wine tasting parties are not only fun but they are opportunities to dine with wine and learn more about it. If you have never been a part of wine tasting party, throw one and explore the fun.
