An interesting article about wine from our extensive collection.

How Many Calorie In a Glass of Wine

How Many Calorie In a Glass of Wine
By Nellie Graham

A lot of people have a common idea on just exactly how many calories they take in whenever they consume solid foods. However, it is quite common to forget that when we take beverages and drink, we are still putting calories in our body.

Alcohol drinkers, most especially those who drink wine, will be surprised to know that the calorie intake that is associated with wine is much larger than you think. So the question is posed: 'Just how many calories are in wine?'

The answer that you'll get is dependent on so many factors such as the type of wine and the size of the glass but all things being equal, it is typically under the 100 calorie mark per wine glass. One of the most important things that you assume is that the person is using the appropriate wine glass whenever drinking wine.

In general, there are fewer calories that can be found in wine compared to other alcoholic beverages. The White Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc comes in at 80 calories per serving. If one considers that one glass of wine per evening is good for cardiovascular health, then drinking wine is in fact a reasonable compliment to an individual's evening meal.

The wine varietal Marsala also comes in at a mere 80 calories per serving while Chablis is a mild 85 calories when you compute for its caloric content. Red Zinfandels are known to come in at around 90 calories per serving as well as the other more popular types of wines such as Riesling, Chardonnay, White Burgundy, and Cabernet Sauvignon. All of these wine varietals come in at around 90 calories per 4 ounce serving. Those varietals which come in at around 95 calories are the reds which are Red Burgundy, Red Bordeaux, Beaujolais, Merlot, Rhone, or Rose.

Knowing that most people generally have more than just one glass, the remaining wines which were not mentioned are believed to be a little higher in their calorie count. If a single 4-ounce serving could only add about 100 calories to an evening, those who happen to consume wine on a regular basis tend to do so with a certain amount of passion and nonchalance. These people end up consuming between 3 and 5 glasses in an average evening which makes them put on the pounds.

The other wines like the Mosell, Pink Champagne, or Chianti all contain 100 calories with every wine glass while the Sangria and Sauterne goes up that proverbial calorie ladder by an extra ten calories. The middle ground for these two types of wines is the Dry Champagne which meets them in the middle at 105 calories.

Because wine comes from a fruit which has a form of sugar, it is therefore, harder to burn. Normally, the sugar which comes from fruits are quite healthy but only if it is directly consumed while it is a fruit. If the fruit has been fermented, the sugar content significantly raises and it becomes more fructose-like than its normal healthy form.
